She was a much-loved mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend. Lois always had a twinkle in her eye, was empathetic, warm, and enjoyed a good hearty laugh with those she loved. She was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy Isabel (Hobson) and James Peter Landon her son, Ross and brother, Peter. Lois is survived by her son Trevor (Julie) and their children, Jennie, Leigh and Jason, of South Africa daughter Ellen Dove (Matt) and their sons Carreg and Josh, of Zimbabwe brother Jim (Sharan) and many nieces, nephews and friends. This faith helped her endure the early and tragic death of her son, Ross, in 2010. Lois was a believer and follower of Jesus Christ and was known as a faithful "prayer warrior." Her deep and abiding Christian faith led her to want to help those in need and show kindness and generosity to all. She became a devoted and active member of Trinity Anglican Church in Simcoe and rekindled many old friendships from her days as a student at Simcoe Composite School. As Zimbabwe's economy began to decline in 2003, and with her adult son Ross living in Ontario, Lois re-settled in Simcoe to be near Ross and her mother. Over the next decades, Lois travelled back to Canada and across her adopted continent, visiting places including Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe Botswana Malawi Mozambique South Africa and Zanzibar. As a teacher, Lois was passionate and committed to her vocation and many of her former students sent their children to be taught by her - a testament to her commitment and dedication to her calling. She travelled to Europe and then Africa, where she married Graham and spent the next 30 years raising her three children, Trevor, Ellen and Ross, helping to manage the family's large farm, and teaching at the Raffingora Community School. ![]() In 1963, life took Lois across the globe. Around that time, she met and fell in love with Graham Taunton, a visiting Zimbabwean (then Rhodesia) tobacco farmer with a charming accent and wry smile. With a vocation to teach, Lois attended teacher's college in London, Ontario, beginning her teaching career at Potash School near Port Ryerse in the early 1960s. She grew up in Port Ryerse, spending countless hours with her two brothers in the fields, forests and waters that meant so much to her family. Lois was born to Dorothy and Jim Landon in Simcoe, Ontario. ![]() On December 25, 2023, in her 84th year, surrounded by family.
